I was rushed into BVH on Sat with a blocked Supra Pubic Catheter and also 2 open fistulas.
A&E was very busy and there were patients lining the corridor. Sister directly referred me to SAU, but there were no beds. So eventually they got me a side room and I had my catheter flushed. (me and the dr got very wet!) I have to be isolated as I have a infection that is resistant to antibiotics and so I needed barrier nursing. I was put on the emergency list to get my catheter changed, as I cant have it done while I am awake for various reasons. However, the on call Urologist was not concerned about the fistulas and that it was something for the hospital I normally am under, when i am not on respite to deal with.
I was discharged with what looked like a piece of kitchen roll over my wounds and was not given any more oral antibiotics. I am on respite for a while and you would of thought as I cant go home for a few weeks, the doctors would fix my fistulas and not let them get infected again, which is what will happen if it is left.
Finally, thank you to the staff on Ward 37, they were so caring and made a real effort. They even bought me my favorite in for my tea - Jacket Potato with cheese and beans!
"Thank you for looking after me."
