I have two chronic health conditions; Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease and systemic sclerosis. I am on a large number of medications, including a controlled drug for pain relief. Each year i go to a music festival which caters for all disabilities and it is my only trip away from home each year. This year I forgot my medication and knew i had four days without, a potentially very serious situation. I telephoned the practice and they were extremely helpful and reassuring. Within 24 hours i had all my medication, including the controlled drug which had to be a posted prescription. The local policy where i was staying had a policy of not prescribing controlled drugs in these situations, an understandable but crude policy that punishes people who are not 'drug seeking' but require controll of excruciating chronic pain. Barlow Medical Practice exceeded their remit and demonstrated a patient first approach. I cannot thank them enough. Next time, however, i will ensure I don't forget my medication!
