"appointments difficult to make at Birley Health Centre"

About: Birley Health Centre

(as the patient),

I was not allowed to make an appointment in advance over the 'phone, but i was allowed to make an appointment in advance at the front desk

.Why is this?

It makes no sense.Sometimes i can't get to the surgery to make an appointment.

I often work 12hr nights and have to stay up 'till 830am to ring for an appointment on the day which is a nightmare when no-one is answering the 'phone.....i think this is very, very poor.

Thank you for your feedback.

As a receptionist at Birley i cant understand why you were told you cant make an appointment in advance by phone. We have advance appointments with all clinicians although if you are wanting one particular clinician you may have to wait longer if you are not willing to see a different one. We prebook the 1st hour of each day but they do get booked up quickly sometimes days in advance (weeks with some doctors) . There is a percentage of appointments left each day for same day booking which you can book by phone from 8.30am or at the front desk after 9am. There are 6 telephone lines connected to the surgery which are answered by at leat 4 receptionists each morning and if you use the 0845 number there is also a system that lets you know where you are in the line to be answered.I hope i have explained the system to you and hope thios helps any readers to understand the booking system.

We are starting up a virtual patient group where you can have your say in changes and developments within the surgery if you are interested please email me susanbreeze@nhs.net
