I had been having increasingly frequent painful episodes which resulted in a gallstones diagnosis by BGH staff in June 2018. In the run-up and following the diagnosis I had interactions with paramedics, the A&E department, and Ward 7 staff during two in-patient stays.
I came away from each experience full of admiration for each and every member of staff I had contact with, including the paramedics, night and day A&E and ward doctors and nurses, and a number of ward staff in a range of roles including cleaners and volunteers.
Each person was so kind, and at no time did I feel like 'just another patient'. I'm well aware of the major pressures facing the NHS, and that staff must feel stretched to the limit, but that wasn't expressed by staff, who were friendly and professional at all times. I had my op on the 70th anniversary of the NHS, and feel that my experience reflected the best of a very precious resource.
