In the spring of this year, my elderly mother was transferred to Swaffham Community Hospital from The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn. She had had a urinary infection and had “gone off her feet”. She was initially admitted to Swaffham for physiotherapy and rehabilitation to try and get her walking again. It soon became apparent that this was not going to happen because of her poor physical condition. The consultant then asked to see us and told us that, in his opinion, she was in the final few weeks of her life and would now be given a palliative care bed.
Over the following weeks, until her death she received excellent care and great kindness, not only from the nurses, but from every other member of the team who came into contact with her. Shortly before she died, I spoke to the ward sister and told her that we felt that my mother had not just been looked after, but had been cared for, for which we were very grateful. As she neared death and subsequently died,, we were shown great empathy and consideration by the staff, for which we were very grateful. I would have no hesitation in recommending
Swaffham Hospital.
