I had been referred to the diabetes clinic and met who seemed to have been a really nice consultant and the help seemed to be there.
How wrong was I.
I struggled with the insulin, but despite taking the initial insulin, it was advised I took more and more and I struggled but no one seemed to listen, I would drive home in tears.
My last appointment was shocking - I was called into the clinic, but a large room in fact, it can best be prescribed as a double clinic room.
One end there was a desk behind the desk stood the consultant.... A person I truly trusted and hoped to receive help......that was not the case........ I this large double room there stood 15 staff members mainly admin. Staff some health care professionals is nurses and care assistants.
In the middle of the room there was one hard back chair ..for me.
I say there surrounded by 15people I had never seen before, the consultant had his right arm raised above his head, in his hand he held a pen.
The torture started......the consultant asked 3 times "will you take this other insulin?". Each time I answered " I'm strggling". He finally brought his right arm down and dramatically wrote in my miss and said"discharged".
The door opened as I remained seated, I say and counted the staff as they walked out.
I left, in shocked and by now I was in tears, alone and very frightened on what humiliation I had been put through.
I have worked as a registered nurse but in London and Manchester I became a specialist cardiac nurse, but never in my life had I come across a hospital who allow a consultant to do such cruelty before.
One thing for sure, I don't think that bullying attitude would happen in a large inner city hospital, sadly it just takes one rather deranged consultant to bring a good hospital down.
Anyone of those 15 staff could have stopped the humiliation, but they didn't, so was that a common procedure and they were so used to this procedure, or did the consultant have such power over people they would be too afraid to speak up.
This hospital is good in so many departments but one consultant, who I suspect was or is suffering from 'burn pig's and he needed care.
Sadly I shall NEVER risk seeing a doctor at any level, for my diabetes.
"How I wish I could give praise."
