"A&E visit 17/074/18"

About: Kettering General Hospital / Accident and emergency

Hi

I brought my mother to A&E on Tuesday 17/07/18.

She had become dizzt whilst out for a walk and fallen over, she was then sick several times and continued to feel dizzy.

We checked in ok at the 1st reception window, then went to wait in the waiting area.

We were then called to the 21nd reception window, where we went through the symptoms, the lady on this reception was very good, and could see my mother was in a lot of discomfort, she was in a wheel chair and still being sick, and very dizzy.

She told us she would get a room for her and called a nurse over, but the nurse said no she cant have one until we have done her obs, so we waited a bit longer, finally got a taken into a room, obs done, nurse couldn't be taken by nurse, so a Doctor took them later.

The Doctor wanted my mother to have an injection, to stop the dizziness, but there was none of this in the building, so in the end was given tablets.

She was then, some time later admitted to the Middleton ward, given a gown and told to get comfty in bad.

The main issue is, she had several cuts on her hands, elbows and knees, but these were not cleaned, they were just left.

They have now slightly healed over but are very red and look infected.

Is it common practice for a hospital not to clean wounds, injuries up? if only minor ones, some on her arms are quite deep and have gavel/grit in them.

She would have happily cleaned them herself if she had been given a bowl of water, antiseptic etc.
