I slipped on ice whilst getting out of the ambulance resulting in a head injury and pain in my pelvis, I was knocked out for a few minutes I believe. I already have a c spine problem so was concerned about this as well.
My crew mate was a Driver from PTS and the crew who attended were all technicians (3 of them). The treatment I received was appalling. They couldn't work out how to get me off the floor so I was on the ice, wet through and freezing for about 40 minutes in total.
One of them began by telling me what they were going to do with the patient who I had originally been sent for and, when I objected and said the casualty on the floor outside -namely me, was the priority they strode over me and said there was no need for me to be like that. Eventually after a lot of messing about and asking me what they should do (someone with a head injury who could have been telling them anything!) I had to ask them to help me back onto my back and then on to my feet. This was a risk for me but seemed the safest at the time as they all appeared so incompetent.
To make matters worse the same crew member who had stood over me then got behind me to steady my c spine but proceeded to push my head forward, I objected and this crew member said they was not pushing and carried on. I shouted for them to let go of me as I could feel the pressure they were using and another of the crew also told them. That crew member later said they couldn't remember this because they slipped at this point!
My line manager at the hospital suggested I put this complaint in writing and I did.
I would never call on any of the local crews again and have since left the service.
