"Chronic Pelvic Pain"

About: Chelsea & Westminster Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

Three years ago I was diagnosed with a 10cm cyst on my apparent left ovary. I was devastated as I had a hysterectomy some years earlier (in my 30s) and asked for ovaries to be removed to stop further gynaecology problems that I had been suffering with from early teens. I was told no as that will incur early menopause, although the Dr did mention scar tissue, which I did not know anything about and did not elaborate on.

Several months later after being injected every 28 days with a drug that brought on the menopause, I was to have an operation to remove the ovaries and cyst. the scan before the operation showed that the cyst has attached itself to the bowel and pelvis. Coming around from surgery I knew something was wrong. They did not perform the surgery stating that they needed specific Dr's present. I knew this was not right as my Gynae surgeon stated that the Bowel and Bladder surgeons plus himself will be present for the procedure, so that statement did not make sense.

I had to fight to get another operation within 8 weeks and in the last month was unable to put any weight on my left leg, the pain, which was bad enough became excruciating. I was told I would have full ovaries and cyst removal and a colostomy bag for 6 months, which was so daunting. Coming around from surgery again I knew something was wrong. No colostomy bag. I was relieved, but that was short lived. They were unable to fully remove the ovary, leaving 20% behind, attached to the pelvis and bowel. They were unable to cut my bowel as they said they would not be able to repair it, so I would of had a colostomy bag for life. They were also unable to find my apparent right ovary, which is still somewhere inside me but can't be seen.

I am now in constant pain and feel like I still have the cyst inside me, which I do laugh about and cry. I am unable to function as before due to pain and my mobility is poor using a stick or crutch as aid (I alternate between blue or black stick or red crutch, due to shoulder and neck pain).

Due to my residence I have to climb 53 steps so I tend to not go out often as I am in a lot of pain afterwards. But having to walk up my stairs I cannot claim mobility from DWP, although I have a freedom pass and disability badge, some professionals do believe that I do.

I feel that surgeons should take into account past medical procedures for individual patients before deciding to keep the ovaries for menopausal reasons. I feel like I should of had everything removed due to scar tissue from multiple laparoscopy procedures and think its unfair that I have to endure this constant excruciating pain, which has forever changed my life and wellbeing.
