"Lucky to have Minehead Community Hospital near us"

About: Minehead Community Hospital

(as the patient),

We love the building, so easy to get to and park. The old Hospital had a warmth about it, perhaps it was old but the reception area is nice, light but seems so sterile, only one picture not a plant or flowers at reception.

The lounge area with table and chairs and vending machine could friends of the hospital provide something there?

We went to a coffee morning for the Macmillan nurses at a friends house and people said it would be nice to be greeted with a smile and that staff were talking to other people in the office and they were just left standing there.

We found the nursing staff brilliant in the A & E and also in the clinics. Could a board be on display when clinics are running late? My husband was half an hour late before being seen.

We are lucky to have Musgrove and Minehead in our area in Somerset. My husband and I have always been treated with great dignity and can never thank them enough.

Hello armies85

Firstly, I would like to thank you for taking the time to provide some feedback regarding your recent visit to this hospital.

We always welcome feedback and suggestions that are offered by visitors to our hospital, drawing from their experiences of the services provided.

I am pleased to be able to inform you that I have been in contact with Matron, Sue Meade, who has informed me that she will take your suggestion regarding pictures in the main reception area, to the local Patient Participation Group and the West Somerset Health Forum for a wider viewpoint.

Regarding plants in the reception area, unfortunately, over time, these can become tired or unmanageable, and so a decision was taken early on not to have plants in this area of the hospital.

Matron agrees whole heartedly that everyone likes to be greeted with a smile, and this will be brought to the attention of all hospital staff.

The reception desk is situated in front of the administration office, which is the hub of the hospital, and as such can become very busy. Matron has noted your comments in relation to the front desk not being manned at all times, and it appearing that staff do not always prioritise waiting visitors.

Matron has agreed to have a trial period when the office door will be kept closed behind the reception desk. During this period, any comments made from visitors will be monitored, and following completion of this period, a decision will be taken as to whether the door should be kept shut or opened again.

I hope that the above response received from Matron, addresses the points that you have raised to your satisfaction, and once again, may I thank you for taking the time to share your experiences with the hospital.

With kind regards
