I have been attending the breast care Centre at Musgrove for the last 3 yrs and I have had two breast operations. After each operation I spent one night in Hospital.
I felt that the care I experienced in Shephards Ward was far superior to that in Parkside as a NHS patient.
My experience in 2010 and since in Shephards ward has been excellant. From attending a clinic, to diagnosis of cancer 2 days later, then seeing a surgeon, to surgery took just 2 weeks. At all times I was treated with respect and all my questions were asswered in detail. Attending the Beacon Centre regulary since the excellent care has continued.
Seeing how hard the nurses work, I think the shifts are much too long without a reasonable break. When I was nursing in the 50's the longest shift was 12 hours. On night duty nurses had an hour's break in the middle which was taken away from the ward and was with a meal. I worry mistakes in care and treatment could occur if staff are tired.
