"Considerate, empathic and professional treatment"

I would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation for the way in which I was treated during two recent attendances at the Emergency Department at Torbay Hospital.

On Monday 5th March, following discussion about chest pains with my GP I was referred by a Paramedic to the Emergency Department. I arrived at about 6.30pm to find the waiting area crowded with limited seating accommodation. After triage, numerous blood tests, X-rays and examinations I was dealt with by the A&E Consultant who was very kind and managed to reassure me about my health. I eventually left the hospital at about midnight.

On Wednesday 28th March, after a consultation with my GP, I was referred with a letter to the Emergency department with a suspected bleeding gastric ulcer. I arrived at about midday and was seen by various members of the Department staff. The lady doctor was very understanding and kind to me. After numerous tests and examinations, I eventually left in the early evening.

I am writing to express my appreciation for the way in which I was treated by all the Emergency staff. I am an extremely nervous patient and these professionals put me very much at ease and reassured me. Please will you pass on my sincere thanks and appreciation.

Whilst writing, I feel that I have to mention my concern about the extreme pressure under which the doctors and all the A&E Nursing staff were working. It had to be seen to be believed. I can only hope that the recent cash injection for the improvement of the Department at Torbay Hospital will make matters more pleasant and relaxed for all concerned.
