I was offered a free NHS health check in January. This basically looked at recent blood test results, my blood pressure, weight, height etc. The information was used to calculate my health risks such as heart attack, diabetes etc.
Armed with this information, I was able to discuss with a clinical pharmacist, how I can improve my health for the long term.
The clinician has been extremely helpful and encouraging. I have been given a number of appointments over the past 6 months primarily to help me to loose weight but also consider my eating habits and exercise balance. The clinician has been unbelievably effective in enabling me to start loosing weight then,continue when I would have given up. The knowledge that I had a target to meet have been integral to my weight loss. His manner is very supportive and informative.
The 'health check' feels like a very proactive way for the NHS to take a preventative rather than reactive role in the nation's health. Thank you.
