About: Torbay Hospital

What I liked

From my initial appointment in outpatients to my discharge after my surgery everything that I experienced was excellent.

From my initial consultation with my GP to the date of my surgery the time involved was only 8 weeks which exceeded my expectations.

My stay in McCallum Ward was a good experience with cleanliness and helpfulness both of a very high standard. The staff were all lovely and happy to help and only one auxiliary was a bit abrupt as if I was making a nuisance of myself when I asked if there was another shower I could use as the one in the ward had nowhere to hang or put my clothes ( no door hooks or seat outside the shower cubicle so everything had to go on the floor). She, however, sorted the problem straight away by placing a stool in the shower room for me.

When told I could go home I was a little lacking in confidence as it was only 24 hours after my surgery and I was going to be completely alone at home. The Doctor said he would speak to the Sister and see if I could stay another night. The Sister came to speak to me and said there was absolutely no pressure on me going home that I could go when I felt ready. That was such a relief and so I went home 48 hours after my op and felt fine about it all by then.

The discharge information pack was full of good information and I certainly felt I could phone the ward if I had any problems. I have been fine since I got home and can only say I am full of praise for all the staff and their professionalism and care.
