"Northampton General Hospital"

About: Northampton General Hospital (Acute) / Accident and emergency Northampton General Hospital (Acute) / General surgery Northampton General Hospital (Acute) / Paediatrics

(as a parent/guardian),

my child was admitted to ward on the 3rd approach to A&E. we had an awful experience -

day 1- evening felt weak and refused to have diner
day 2 - evening felt weak and complaint stomach ache, took food only as explained it is hot and might be needed food anyway - given paracetamol.
day 3 - from midday pain asked if serious to get to hospital said it's ok, can cope (we have concerned food poison as pain mid stomach)
day 4 (1st admission visit professional) - 4am sick/ vomit - taken to Northampton A&E, sent to Springfield department, 5hrs waiting (1 GP -8patients before us ), GP done wee test, quite surely said "Stomach BUG" as pain not in lower right part of abdominal, blood test on sugar levels, Child respond to pain level 8.75 out of 10 (SENT HOME)
day 5 (second visit) - 3am sick/ vomit - taken to Northampton A&E, 4hrs waiting in general kids room, done wee test, doctor felt tummy advised not sure if appendicitis or bug, blood not clear when asked on pain level:
Child respond to pain level 8.75 -9.25 out of 10 (SENT HOME)

day 6 (3rd admission) - 4am sick/ vomit had no food 2days, 8am asked to go to HOSPITAL. 9am assessed by A&E staff, blue gown doctor sent to do Ultrasound (although mentioned that would make no difference as not thinks it is appendicitis, took bloods said 1 index abnormal, but not too high. (child pain level 8,5-9.25).

By afternoon taken to the Padington ward. (nothing has been done apart from wee test, temperature, and b.pressure) Blue gown doctor RESPOND- lets wait till morning to make sure it is appendix as they assume, because their shift is over soon. Child is in pain 9-10 but not screaming (Dad teaches her how to cope with pain and relax).

being in pain on ibuprofen and paracetamol/ vomit in ward (5ml acid) and in severe pain through the night,

day 7  ( operation) seen by another "Female Blue Gown" in early hours of morning - we told that was a pain wave and tummy went hot/ pain moved left and right of lower abdominal child is out of control/ screaming, - told they do nothing at night, 7am will be doctors checkup where decision will be made, given oral Morphyn. Child respond to pain level 8.75 - 10 out of 10, after all medication including paracetamol/ibuprofen on demand.

9am checkup shows very sore tummy. Another "Blue gown" confirms it is appendicitis, will be sent to operation, child have very good expectations as explained procedure from good side.

2 hours later child is in severe pain/ no energy 26hrs after admission.

Later on that afternoon after operation, being told appendicitis ruptured, complications to come not likely as washed all through.

....

Problems still coming

Tube to help ease bladder was not inserted correctly / child in HDO still in severe pain under morpyn.

Where to look for help.. Child scared that doctors will kill her, Said that aloud to mum and dad.. MY hands literally shaken when writing this.
