"Funding my care"

About: NHS Highland (Health) Royal Brompton Hospital

(as the patient),

Shocked!!!

I have been attending the RB as both an In-patient and Out-patient for the last 15 years. Just over two weeks ago I received a letter from the RB saying that they have been advised to discharge my care back to the NHS Highland.

An appointment at the RB in January was supposed to be my final appointment. NHS Highland never informed me about that! First I knew about this refusal to fund was two weeks ago.

As my respiratory condition has worsened several tests were ordered in January for September – these have now been cancelled.

I have been told (verbally) that my local hospital at Inverness will treat me. It takes six weeks from taking a routine x-ray (never mind a HRCT scan) to deliver the results – this is from personal experience.

To my knowledge Inverness do not have any specialist consultants in respiratory disease to treat my condition. In fact they are currently advertising for a Dr., in this area. Furthermore, I am told that a Prof’ visits the local hospital at Inverness, ‘every now and then’.

The RB are able see me at short notice – within a week.

I have also been told that there is no choice for patients in Scotland.

I want to see, ‘my’ grandchildren grow up, I want to see, ‘my’ children  mature and I want to, ‘live’ what remains of my life with my loving wife. That can only be achieved thru the continuing care from the RB.

What can I do to continue my excellent treatment and care at The Royal Brompton which have kept me alive for the last 15 years?

Can anyone help?

Update posted by BlaisePascal (the patient)

Thank you very much for your response to my very real concern.

Unfortunately, I have already been in touch with the PALS team and the person I spoke to informed me that there was nothing they could do to help.

Feeling increasingly worried...

Take care.
