"Poor care"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Gynaecology

(as a service user),

I would like to complain about the treatment (or lack of) that I have received from Forth Valley a Royal hospital Gynaecology department.

I was first referred to said department in 2016. I had numerous appointments as I was unable to conceive due the presence of endometriosis.

The doctor I saw knew that I already had a diagnosis of endometriosis and had been operated on in 2014 to have my left ovary and Fallopian tube removed and also to have my right ovary, bladder and bowel separated.

All I was offered was a hysterectomy. Anyone that knows anything about endometriosis knows that a hysterectomy does not cure endometriosis -There is no cure.

I told them that I wanted to see an endometriosis specialist for excision surgery as that is the best treatment for this disease and I felt every other treatment suggestion I made was laughed at.  I was told that no one does this in FVR, all I could have was a hysterectomy... case closed.

I returned to my GP to ask if I could be referred to another hospital ie Glasgow or Edinburgh but was told no, I would have to seek private treatment and pay for it.

I then asked to see someone else in the Gynaecology department at FVR because I wanted a second opinion. I have since seen a different doctor who although had a nicer manner told me that I’d be best to accept my situation and move on with my life as no surgeon would touch me due to fear of making my situation worse with adhesions after surgery etc.

I have since discovered that there is an Endometriosis Specialist Centre in Edinburgh and I want to know why I was not referred there by my Gynaecologist if there was nothing FVR would it could do for me? ?

I have spoken to the endometriosis centre and they have said that my gynaecologist would have to refer me, then it goes to a panel and there is quite a backlog I. e a large waiting list / time.

Years of my life have been wasted between delay in diagnosis from GP surgery lack of knowledge to Forth Valley Royal hospital gynaecology department.
