"Mixed Crisis team care"

About: Carseview Centre / General Psychiatry

(as a service user),

I was referred to the Crisis team at the Carseview centre due to serious depression, psychosis and suicide impulses.

The first few weeks, I feel they spoke to me a lot and helped me cope with my thoughts.

However, one week - I struggled greatly with suicide impulses and phoned the crisis team on multiple occasions informing them I was going to committ suicide. I cried and begged them to help me. My partner also called, begging them to help. They told me and him, to take deep breathes and informed us "I would be fine." 5 hours later, I was in hospital on a drip after a paracetamol overdose.

After being discharged from the hospital, I was told to go and see the crisis team. I informed them my mum wanted me to go home for a week and asked if they could phone me certain nights - to which I was told: "No we cant do that we need to discharge you if you go home." I was now choosing between helping my mental health or being with my family.

After the care I had received over the past few days, my decision was easy.

Dear "flowery1"

I am very concerned about the experience you describe and would like to hear more detail about it. NHS Tayside has launched an Independent Inquiry into Mental Health Services in Tayside and we want to encourage people to come forward and share their stories with us. There are many ways in which you can do this.

The Independent Inquiry has already started to engage with patients, families and charities to ensure they have a strong voice in the process and we would encourage you to share your experiences with them.

The Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland (the ALLIANCE) is leading the involvement of patients, families, the public, the third sector and mental health charities at the Tayside Mental Health Services Independent Inquiry. The ALLIANCE is a national intermediary organisation which aims to ensure people are at the centre and their voices sit at the heart of the delivery and improvement of support and services.

The ALLIANCE wants to hear from as many people as possible to support the Inquiry with its review. There is a dedicated website at https://www.alliance-scotland.org.uk/people-and-networks/tayside/. There you will be able to find up-to-date information on how to get involved with the Inquiry. You can also contact the Inquiry by email at tayside@alliance-scotland.org.uk.

We are listening and, if anything needs to be changed, we will take immediate action to change it.
