"Very dissmissve and made to feel inadequate"

About: Pinderfields General Hospital / Accident and emergency

I visited the children's A&E department with my 6 year old on the 13th June around 9.30-10pm. The junior doctor who assessed was extremely rude and dismissive of us. We were made to feel extremely small and quite stupid. We happened to mention that my daughter was undergoing tests through the GP regarding her liver and she just threw it back at us that it will be vitamin D deficiency causing the problem (how she would know this without actually listening to what we were saying, I will never know) I tried to tell her again about my daughters bloods test and was rudely informed again 'that we all have vitamin D deficiency in the UK so that's what it is!')

I would like to point out that my daughters vitamin D came back normal and is now being discussed with a paediatrician...understandably we came to the department for a different reason however, if this doctor had bothered to listen to us instead of seeing us as an inconvenience, this issue could of been picked up on earlier!

Think maybe she should re-learn her people skills.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments regarding your recent experience of visiting our services.

I am really sorry to read of your experience.

Visiting our emergency services is particularly daunting for anyone especially for children.

Staff should be supportive and provide reassurance to all of our patients.

From your posting this was not your experience and I am sorry in particular for how the doctor dismissed your concerns.

If you would like to discuss your concerns further, perhaps talking to our PALS team would help.

If this is something you would like to do, please contact them on 01924 542972 or via email on my-tr.pals@midyorks.nhs.uk.

Thank you again for your feedback.

Kind regards

Clare Blackburn
