"I believe my mother was abused before she died"

About: Heartlands Hospital

(as a relative),

My Mum passed away in Heartlands hospital late last year.

She made the decision not to have any more dialysis as it was not helping so we got to spend some quality time before she passed away.

Previous to this my Mom kept telling me that she was being abused by three members of staff. I thought she was just confused and i shamefully told her not to be silly.

It was only when another patient and her family pulled me to one side and told me that what Mom was saying was true that i took it seriously. I was devastated to think that i ignored my Mom when she needed me most.

I reported these staff, and to this day i have heard nothing about what has been done to stop these so-called carers from inflicting harm on someone else's loved ones. To be totally honest i have tried to block it out as i get too upset. Selfish I know, but it is too late for my Mom now.

The majority of the staff were wonderful, including the haemodialysis department. Some of the lovely staff came to say goodbye to Mom in her last few hours and really did care about her, they are the true angels.

Sadly, another lady lost her Mother too on the same ward the day before mine, and i have since found out that she complained about two of the same staff as well.

The only thing that gets me through this is the fact that i believe in Karma and what goes around comes around.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us this feedback.

We are very disturbed and saddened by this and have launched an internal investigation. We will do our best to share our findings and would appreciate it if you could contact Patient Services (formerly known as PALS) on 0121 424 1212 to give us more details and let us know who have previously reported this to.

We take all feedback received extremely serious and act upon it.

Thank you again.
