"Felt confident during removal of sebaceous cyst"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Day Surgery

(as a service user),

So I got to the hospital half an hour early - there was roadworks and finding a space in the car park can often be a challenge. Another patient had failed to turn up and so I got their place. Half an hour early and seen straight away - that never happens.

I wasn't sure what to expect and hadn't given it much thought. Was it just going to be a consultation and then a few months wait for an op. I was pleasantly surprised when the doctor, David, was very friendly and I felt totally at ease. He started filling in a consent form and  that's when I realised the cyst was going to be removed right there and then - cool.

He introduced his helpers, Pam and Jill and student nurse Claire observing.   He then explained the procedure in detail and checked if I had any questions. The surgery took about a half hour start to finish and I felt very confident in the teams' ability and Davids' skill especially. I was surprised when David let me see the size of the cyst but I was happy to see that he had removed the whole thing in one go.

My only very minor complaint was that it was roasting in that room. All in all everything was done very efficiently and I was left with a very good impression. Thanks guys.

Thank you for your lovely feedback, and for my new job title (! )

I hope you aren't too upset to hear I am a specially trained Nurse. I try to emphasize this at the time of the appointment but sometimes it sails over people who are nervously thinking of the procedure ahead. Calling Pam and Jill " helpers " is something I haven't been brave enough to attempt yet....

All joking aside, it is great you recognise that it takes a team to make the service work properly, and we are delighted you were happy with your experience.

We hope everything heals well and you are not too uncomfortable now the anaesthetic has worn off.

Thanks again

David

P.S. I am reluctant to moan about the room temperature due to the fact we have had no summer for years. I feel this atypical Scottish weather will pass all to soon and we will revert back to looking out the jumpers again. Enjoy it while you can.
