I am now in my late 40's and after nearly four years of Speech Therapy for my slight stammer, I may not be the finished article, but I am work in progress and further down the road to recovery, than I was two years ago.
My Speech Therapist is called Lynne and she has been my inspiration, with her very useful advice during my one-to-one Speech Therapy appointments at the Eddercliffe Centre, near Cleckheaton and also in the G.A.S. Group Speech Therapy sessions, which are always held at Dewsbury Health Centre, usually on the last Tuesday of every month.
The G.A.S. Group stands for "Group for Adults who Stammer" and is also a monthly "top-up" for people who stammer, that can't get to one-to-one Speech Therapy appointments. Relaxation exercises, breathing exercises and phone practice exercises are things that we have practiced at the G.A.S. Group sessions.
Speech Therapy for my stammer has given me a lot more confidence in job interviews, social situations, using the phone and also in speaking to people in general.
"Speech Therapy for a stammer, after nearly four years."
