"Treatment of elderly patients at consultation"

About: Royal Stoke University Hospital / Ophthalmology

Staff should give elderly patients more time to understand what is being explained. Before painful procedures they should be warned beforehand not during. Staff should introduce themselves. 2 did not and as far as I can remember were not wearing name badges.

Instead of grilling patients with poor memory they should read their medical history beforehand. Older people forget dates easily.

They should speak slower but not condescendingly.

Thank you for taking the time to share your comments about your experience of our hospital. I will ensure I forward them to the Management Team for Ophthalmology. I know they will be grateful for the feedback and will share it with the wider team for learning.

With best wishes

Rebecca Pilling, Quality Improvement Facilitator: Patient Experience.
