I saw a locum GP on Friday 15 June with a very painful and swollen throat and ear ache.
The GP examined me and said I had a temp of 38.7 and high blood pressure so he prescribed liquid Pencillin, albeit a low dose, which I started to take.
On Saturday evening the pain and symptoms were becoming worse and I felt like I was deteriorating as I was then unable to swallow the Pencillin or any liquids at all so was becoming dehydrated So I went to A&E the following morning at 7.45 Upon arrival I was triaged immediately and asked to go through to Majors.
I was assessed shortly afterwards and after various tests including a blood test was shown to be tachicardic which they suspected was due to a throat infection.
I was seen by an ENT Doctor approximately one hour afterwards where he diagnosed Tonsillitis and said I needed to be admitted to have IV drugs and fluids as I was dehydrated and in considerable discomfort.
I was taken to Poplar ward and was given treatment straightaway.
The care I was given was very good. The nursing staff were very kind and professional and I had my blood pressure, temperature and SATs tested regularly and after a few hours started to feel more comfortable.
I was discharged on Monday afternoon with a week's course of Pencillin.
I have to say this was the most painful condition I have ever experienced but the treatment I received both in A&E and in Poplar ward made me feel very reassured so I just wanted to thank all the staff who looked after me.
