"Accessing urgent GP care"

About: Derbyshire County PCT

(as a relative),

I have struggled to reach my doctors surgery (Rectory Road Medical Centre) by telephone today. (Same applies every time I've tried to contact them over last few months) I waited 25 minutes in a queue before reaching the Receptionist to be told I couldn't make an appointment or wait with my son as an emergency patient. I could have an appointment for tomorrow. I told her that's wasn't a feasible option, he needed Medical attention today and was given the new 111 number.

I contacted them and was told my son must see a Doctor today. Back on the telephone to our G.Ps. After another 15minute wait in a queue I had my son placed on the 'on call' Drs list. I've waited all day for this call. I will have a prescription for my son by the end of today thankfully. Every individual I spoke to was helpful, polite and apologetic but surely things could be improved? Fortunately I'm off work this week, on holiday or today's demands would not have been possible.
