"Difficulty obtaining information regarding my blood test results @ Wythenshawe Hospital"

About: Wythenshawe Hospital / Endocrinology

(as the patient),

As a patient with hypothyroidism, I like to keep a record of my blood test results. Every time I have a blood test, I request that the results are sent to me (including the reference ranges). This was a continuous struggle - eventually I complained to PALS, who investigated my complaint. This was then passed on to the Medic Legal department who told me that if I wanted to see my records, I would have to make an appointment with them to view my notes. All I wanted was a sheet of paper showing some results - what a palaver!

Another complaint is that sometimes when the Consultant request Free T3 and T4

tests, the lab does not do them. Since the lab knows nothing about you or your history, I don't think they should be able to make that decision.

I'm a nurse and ex-midwife myself, so I do understand something about how things run, but cost cutting on essential tests can prove very uneconomical in the long run, both to the patient and the NHS.

The reason that I'm writing this is that once again, I am being blanked by my consultants secretary, following two unanswered emails requesting my follow up appointment (which after two months has still not arrived), and results of my last blood tests. Hopefully my 6 month follow up appt. will not turn out to be 8 months.

After discovering this website, I phoned the Patient experience team at Wythenshawe, and they are investigating. Thank you! Let's hope it gets somewhere!

I'm glad I found this site to let off some steam!
