"Emergency Appendectomy at Easter"

About: Macclesfield District General Hospital / Accident and emergency

Admitted via A&E on Easter Sunday. Thanks to the Junior Doc for the thorough diagnosis and the radiologist for the CT findings I was admitted to Ward 1A for surgery the following day. Care was great and the nursing staff are a credit to Macc. A couple of minor points:

Obviously the hospital were short staffed during Easter weekend. A very high percentage of agency nurses during night shift. Chaotic rescheduling of agency nurses during Easter Monday evening didn’t help

The hidden Ward 5 I was transferred to before discharge on Tuesday evening was terrible. Obviously a temporary arrangement but it was dirty, in an isolated part of the hospital and on that night ran by 2 very inexperienced agency nurses. This unofficial ward isn’t great. I was left to wander down a corridor at night to get an IV issue sorted. Appreciate beds are scarce and this area is only used for the relatively well people. But, it was still a pretty ropey experience
