In mid Feb 2018 my son suffered a first tonic-clonic (Grand Mal) seizure at work and was ambulanced to A&E at QEU. They said they would refer him to a neurologist. In March 2018 he suffered two close tonic-clonic seizures on the same day and ended up in A&E at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. They said they would expedite the appointment as urgent. Two weeks later (6 weeks after his first seizure) he called to ask about the appointment and was told they knew he was urgent but they had capacity issues so he would have to wait another 12-14 weeks. That would be 20 weeks after a significant tonic-clinic seizure. We were aware that the first appointment would result in a referral for a brain scan and follow up appointment for the result which would be a further 10 weeks. So that would be 30 weeks after his first seizure.
In the end I used some savings and arranged a private consultation with a neurologist 3 days later followed by a brain scan 4 days after. The follow up appointment was one day after the scan.
My son was found to have a brain tumour and had an appointment with a neurosurgeon two days later.
I think that making people wait 30 weeks to find out they have such a serious condition is cruelly stressful.
