"Admitted late At night after a call from out of..."

About: Royal Hallamshire Hospital / Infectious diseases

I was admitted after coming from a holiday in Jamaica. I had some bloods and stool samples done at my GP on Tuesday 19th June after falling ill with fever sickness and diahorria. The results which showed my kidney function was reduced by 50%.

Got the the E2 ward where a lady came and took details of my history as I have spina biffida.

The communication stop there. I was getting told different things by different people. Once they found out it was the infection in the bladder and I was treated with antibiotics,

I asked a sister to be transferred to the spinal injuries unit as my specialist there was more experience in this field.

, and I didn’t feel confident that the staff was experienced enough as I have multiple operations to do with my bladder.

This was dismissed.

Then Thursday I had a scan and it showed that the kidney tubes was swelled again the spina injuries should have been informed of this but was’nt. I was having to repeat myself to every single person who I dealt with. On Friday 22nd June I asked my sister who works as a nurse and has worked on spinal injuries agreed that my care should now have been handed over or at least discussed with my consultant at Spinal Injuries. She asked to speak to the nurse who told my sister that I just had swelling of the kidneys, and no infection, my sister said in that case she was confused to why I was on IV antibiotics for infection. When the consultant arrived he confirmed that I had got an infection. She the requested that my consultant at spinal injuries was informed. That afternoon I was discharged I had no faith in any of the staff on E2 apart from the consultant that was dealing with me and I only saw him twice.
