In June 2016, desperately ill, I came under the care of the Staff of the RLUH, due to having a perforated gallbladder ( which I had had for a significantly long time apparently) a collapsed right lung and the dreaded sepsis which was causing my vital organs to shut down. I found myself under the expert care of a consultant and his excellent team. The following day I underwent surgery and subsequently found myself in the High Dependency Unit, where i was given the most excellent care from everyone there. I was extremely poorly, in pain and did not think I would be returning home. However, gradually through the haze of the medication, and with the care and encouragement of those wonderful, wonderful people who nursed me, I eventually found myself being welcomed into Ward 9A. Where the care and expertise were just the same, and they looked after me until I was eventually allowed to go home.
I simply can not praise enough the entire Magnificent Staff of the Royal, for it was their dedication and expertise that got me through the scariest time of my life and returned me to my family. It has been a long hard fight since then, but now, in June 2018 at 77 years of age I appear to be thriving.
I am only alive today due to the ingenuity of the surgical team, whose magical skills cleansed my unclean carcass of the Sepsis that was destroying it. And all the other clinicians of every skill and nursing care of whom I thank and salute. You all do really great work.
With eternal thanks from Jim Saunders.
