"Out of hours GP"

About: South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / NHS 111 South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Out-of-hours general practice

(as a service user),

Unfortunately my 3 year old son had been quite poorly over the weekend and after a 111 call and a call back from a doctor an ambulance was sent due to the deterioration of my sons health.

On arrival the paramedics seemed quite friendly but one paramedic became quite rude and sarcastic and quite belittling, after requesting my son be seen by a doctor they paramedic phoned through to the out of hours GP at Bournemouth hospital informing him of my sons ill health trying to belittle myself. We eventually got an appointment and the paramedics left, the paramedics took a while to leave my driveway and were overheard been quite rude about us. Quite frankly I was appalled by their behaviour, particularly the rude one.

When arriving at Bournemouth hospital the emergency GP was also quite rude telling us to be quiet while they spoke as they wanted to tell us what was wrong with our son. They also told us the same things the paramedics said. I was so disappointed in how we were dealt with. Bournemouth out of hours GP service quite frankly needs a lot of work! More compassionate doctors who actually look like they want to be there. And the paramedics need a whole attitude change! I have never been so disgusted and felt so belittled by the nhs. I understand they are all under a lot of pressure and there is a big hype on how paramedics are mistreated but quite frankly the way myself and my family were treated over the weekend I am not surprised people get their hair off with them, they can be quite insulting.

Disappointed is an understatement. My son had quite a nasty viral infection, he was dehydrated with a very high temperature. All we wanted was to have him checked over and reassured it was nothing serious considering the strange rash he came out in. He is now on the mend thankfully.
