I was dreading taking my three year old to A&E yesterday because of the bad experience I had 6 years ago with my oldest son. In both cases they had breathing problems.
(5 hour waiting time, chaotic, lost paperwork, no advice for what to do at home, unfriendly staff). This time could not have been more different though. The rreceptinist at A&E was efficient and kind, we were seen within minutes by the nurse who did a quick check. After that we only waited about 10 minutes before were called in to see the doctor. History taking was fast and I did not have to repeat it lots of times so I guess the notes were taken correctly. All staff were wonderful to my little boy and me. After about 1,5 hours we were taken to a Ifor ward where we were given a bed and it was clearly explained what the treatment plan for the night was. The ward was remarkably quiet during the night even though there were patients in nearly every cubicle. Nurses performed their jobs quietly and swiftly and my son actually had a really good sleep. The ward was clean and was continuously being kept clean. My son felt good in the morning and enjoyed the playroom. The lunch / dinner menu was very extensive and he ate it all happily. The consultant came with his team before we were discharged to do final checks and clearly explained further treatment steps to do at home and advice for if this happens again in the future. All staff seemed to communicate well and while hospital visits are never great, it felt like we were taken care of really well and that took a lot of the stress and anxiety away. Thank you very much.
"Thank you for improving yr paediatric department."
