II sustained an open ankle fracture some weeks ago when on a 10 week holiday in Spain. I received excellent emergency and follow up care by the Spanish NHS.
However the follow up care was not complete on my return home and I needed to slot into the NHS here to continue my treatment.
I was able to get a same day GP appointment by going on line at 7.30am on Monday.
I explained the situation and the salaried GP made a referral to the fracture clinic at the University Hospital.
My husband attened with me for practical reasons. The discussion with the GP was easy and incusive. I was impressed at the speed and decisivness that the GP sugested my entry into our NHS system.
I agreed, as did my husband, that a referral to the fracture clinc was probably the best way forward.
The GP sugested that I should contact the surgery if I had heard nothing from the hospital within 24 hours. This I did and was asured by the secretary that the e mailed referral had been dispatched.
The whole surgery experience, including reception staff was first class.
I'm pleased to say that I was seen, treated and slotted into the fracture system 6 days after my GP appointment.
You will see from my 4 and 5 star ratings above, that I do not have any problems with contact and respect from the surgery.
I do hope though, that those patients with comunication problems have different and satisfactory access to all the surgery sevices
