"Junior Dr does not listen"

About: Brierley Park Medical Centre

i visited dr with back pain, pain was so bad I could not sit down in consultation room.

I had severe back pain 5 months ago and had tried to get on with things however again just before visit to Gp I had had deliberating pain once more in lumbar region which took me off my feet.

Upon visiting the Dr, whom diagnosed me with a pulled muscle told me to keep active and prescribed zapain a codeine based drug that should only be prescribed for 3 days due to addiction, he gave me 100tablets.

I stated that I thought this pain was a little more serious than a pulled muscle (I have been a nurse for 20years and have some idea of a pulled muscle pain).

The junior Dr proceeded that his father had severe pain with a pulled muscle and that is what he would be treating me for.

I subsequently organized a lumbar Ct privately and thank god that I did.....it showed that I actually had 2 slipped discs.

After A telephone call with the Dr explaining that I had 2slipped discs and was still in excruating pain he gave me a sick certificate to return to work on light duties after one week. This is a complete worry as being a nurse and not being able to sit or stand for more than 30mins without severe pain, I am not quite sure what light duties he expected me to be doing further more by returning to work so soon I felt that I would be putting myself at risk of further damage.

From this whole experience I am thoughrougly disappointed and concerned and worried that this junior Dr is giving out such advice.

I felt I wasn’t taken seriously in the consultation room or indeed at the follow up phone call.

I will be making a formal complaint also as in my 20years of nursing I certainly would not give advice to someone to return to work (even on light duties)after them telling me they had 1slipped disc let alone 2.

We note your comments and as a practice we are very saddened that you felt the need to put a review of this nature.

We would be extremely grateful if you could contact our Practice Manager who will be happy to arrange a meeting with you and the doctor concerned together with his trainer so that we can fully discuss and address the issues you raise.

Thank you.
