"Lack of info after knee arthroscopy at Southmead Hospital"

About: Southmead Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I went in at 7am for an arthroscopy on my left knee.

The staff were really great; but it was a little frustrating as I had to wait until after 2pm for the actualy surgery. It would have been better to come in later in the day.

Nevertheless, everyone one involved in caring for me was extremely helpful and kind. After the operation I was moved to Chew Ward.

However, I was very disappointed - and a little surprised - to be told that, as the surgeon had left before I came to, no one was able to tell me what actually happened in the operation. They knew I had cartilage removed, but couldn't tell me if I had any ligament damage, etc. and I was told that I would have to wait until the post-op meeting with the consultant to find out.

The level of care was excellent overall; the nursing staff were absolutely fantastic. I just feel like someone should have been able to tell me how the operation went!
