"Caring for my feet"

About: Adult community health services / Podiatry Penn Hill Surgery, Yeovil

(as the patient),

I have previously had podiatry treatment at Bartec 4 which was very convenient for me. It was also a clean and comfortable place to go to.

However, a recent appointment was at a care home in Yeovil in a room that had been used to cut the resident's hair. This had been swept to one side but I didn't think it was very hygienic to be barefoot in this room.

I spoke to Dr Childs at the GP surgery about this and asked if I could be treated at Bartec 4 again. She very kindly said she would do what she could. I have since received a letter to arrange a further appointment, for this I must phone a number in Chard. the letter states if they do not hear from me they will discharge me.

It's all a bit distressing, I'm 90 and really all I need is an appointment that will allow me to have my feet seen to, somewhere close to where I live as it is difficult to travel far.

Hello,

I am really sorry to hear that you are distressed following your experience with the Podiatry Service.

I have spoken to the service manager, Emma Blake, about your story. She has told me that generally we do not visit care homes unless the patient is ulcerated and housebound - which doesn’t sound like the case in your situation, so it’s unclear why you were seen in a care home.

Emma would be happy to look into this for you if you would like her to do so. You can email me on lucy.nicholls@sompar.nhs.uk and I can pass your details onto her.

With regards to booking a further appointment at Bartec 4, we would be more than happy to help you to do this. You can call our Chard booking office on 01460 247555 to speak to someone who will book your appointment in a convenient place and at a convenient time for you. (The booking office can be quite busy but you can press 2 for a call-back if the line is busy and they will call you back.)

I hope that we are able to resolve this for you. Thank you for taking the time to leave your story.

Kind regards,
LUCY
