"Told My 10 year old son cannot be treated ..."

About: Northwick Park Hospital / Ear, Nose and Throat

We took our 10 year old to ENT as emergency. This was after a second visit to the GP who had kindly prescribe amoxicillin for 5 days. We also took him to a private audiologist (cost £70 ) to have the wax removed who found out that his wax in his ear had crystallised and the only option would be to have it removed under general anaesthetic.

The audiologist tried to remove the wax on two different occasions but clearly advise that the wax was too deep and was infected. My son has not been able sleep and attend school and we just don’t know what to do we have spoken to the chemist who has given us pain killers but it does help him. It is now 23:30 an our son keeps asking why nothing can be done for him. We have checked that it can be done on a private basis but cost £2500 and we don’t have that kind of money and I am not sure why pay national insurance if on a case like this my son cannot be treated.

There is now yellow puss coming out of his ear and shooting pain and the little lad is desperate and I am so annoyed that when we took him Friday to ENT we were told that unless is a life and deaf situation they wouldn’t be able to do anything.

No medication was provided no advise and they could not wait to get rid of us. I am not sure what else to say but this is not right and I am extremely disappointed specially as we are dealing with a child. I can understand if it was an adult as we are able to

Identify the severity of a medical case but for a child it is very hard to stomach. I am looking at my child with suppressed internal tears as I feel hopeless against a system that I have not control of.
