"Pharmacy waiting time at Medway Maritime Hospital"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital / Neurology

(as a relative),

I took my elderly frail mother for her appointment in the neuroscience department, she was given a hospital prescription for new medication. The pharmacy informed waiting customers that there would be a wait of one and a half to 2 hours due to increased demand. I was unable to wait or return in the immediate future for this service. Therefore I feel that the pharmacy department is not fit for purpose. The previous system of green prescriptions to remit at a local chemists worked really well. The system has obviously not improved since an earlier visit I made in December, when my wait was just over 2 hours. This situation is wasting patients time, stressing staff and clogging up already precious parking spaces and causing extra parking charges.

Thank you for your feedback. We are really sorry for the additional worry caused as a result to the changes in our pharmacy service.

Today, it was approved for the service to return to the way in which it managed prescriptions previously as we have listened to patient feedback and can recognise that the changes made have been a huge inconvenience and concern to patients and their families.

It is likely that the way in which prescriptions are managed will be reviewed and altered again this year, but this will be done with careful planning with more consideration being placed on patient needs.

We intend to re-issue the FP10 prescriptions again and apologise again for the inconvenience caused.

Kindest regards,

The Patient Experience Team
