"Concern over elderly care at Stepping Hill Hospital E wards"

About: Stepping Hill Hospital / Older people's healthcare

(as a relative),

My father died in Stepping Hill Hospital last year. He was blind and deaf and was an inpatient on ward E3.

While on the ward he lost three stone in weight, and never ate or drank due to his disability. We were never allowed on the ward during mealtimes, and after we complained to PALS we were verbally abused by a member of the ward staff.

Eventually he was sedated permanently by the night staff and even his consultant could not tell us why he was sedated. All in all, we felt his care was atrocious.

We saw patients receive food trays put next to full urine bottles, and other patients put on bedpans and forgotten about.
