(as a relative),

My nephew needed 4 stitches on his lip. After waiting for over 2 hours in Blackpool Victoria Hospital A&E, my sister was informed she would have to go to Preston for specialist treatment but they would arrange an ambulance. After waiting a while more, she was informed there was no ambulance available, so me her disabled sister at 10pm at night had to drive my nephew and his mum to Preston Hospital. When we arrived we were sent to the childrens ward where we were met with a doctor who put 4 stitches in his lip. No specialist surgery was performed and it appeared to me as if anyone who could stitch could have done the procedure. Why this could not have been done at the Blackpool Victoria Hospital is beyond me.

Please accept our apologies as we are not sure why staff did not offer a taxi to Preston if an amublance wasn't available.

The Accident and Emergency department at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust does not have a plastic surgeon on site to advise or assist with wound closure. Clinicians refer patients to Preston for specialist assessment to the plastic surgery team to ensure scaring is minimal.

I accept you may not have a plastic surgeon on site, but why have her queue for 2 hours then tell her? and why she wasn't offered a taxi also is beyond me.

I complained but was told to get my sister to complain, as it was me that had to drive her there and back and I had to get dressed and am chronically disabled and have been with rheumatoid arthritis since the age of 2

I feel my complaint should have been listened to, not pass the buck to my sister who has enough on her plate with 2 teenagers, a new baby, a disabled sister and a mum with a brain tumour.
