"Doesn’t work well"

About: The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (Stanmore) / Trauma and orthopaedics

I had stem cell treatment on my knee and it didn’t work. The hospital is old and dirty and I felt like I was being treated in a facility in the war. The doctors rarely came to see me and I always see junior doctors on the ward and never the consultants. Everything I requested seemed like hard work such as can I have a glass of water. I felt small. I am now going to pay to go to America because I feel let down by the NHS.

We're sorry to hear this. No treatment has any 100% guarantee of success, including stem cells and this should have been explained to you during the consent process. Many of the hospital's building are old but they are clean; we have among the very best infection rates of any acute Trust in England and Wales. Patients are not always regularly seen by consultants, so registrars (senior doctors but not consultants) do often see patients. Requests for assistance or glasses of water should have been straightforward and we'd like to know what happened so we can investigate further. Please email rnoh.pals@nhs.net. Thank you
