"Physiotherapy appointment"

Visited the lowfield physiotherapy department it was my first visit after having spinal surgery, not a big fan of physio due to not having good experiences in the past at other hospitals and I was anxious and nervous .It was a new building reported to the receptionist she was lovely so helpful ,signed in and was told my physio wouldn't be long to wait in the waiting area and help myself to a drink, Had not been in there my physio came introduced herself ,I hadn't filled out my questionnaire I had been handed explained this she told me not to worry we can do this together. Went into a private room which suited me down to the ground ,the physio went through paperwork ,also read through my notes asked question about how I am doing etc ,give me plenty of time to answer asked if I had any questions which I did then onto excercises at one point I had an anxiety attack when it came to a certain exercise I explained this is where I had big issues from the past from a previous hospital The physio was very understanding and reassuring and allowed myself to take full control of my excercises as I knew my capabilities which I have never experienced in the past I thought this was awesome ,she verbally and visually give me guidance which I thought was fantastic which calmed me down and give me the confidence I needed. This lady was very professional ,caring understanding very good communication skills and most of all empathy which I have never encountered at other hospitals it really made my day and less fearful of physiotherapy ,advised on excercises to do to aid my recovery, asked if I had to come back again due to travelling a long way the decision was totally mine but encouraged to come back to aid my recovery faster and to see how I was getting on ,I agreed and thanked this wonderful lady for all her help and support . To the receptionist again to book my next appointment ,given a time and date which suited me ,then I asked if she could book my nhs patient transport home as I have not experienced a good service from them in the past. This lady was very kind and phoned through for me the first time she was cut of second time the person on the other end of the phone was not very welcoming at all but the receptionist percerviered and was very professional transport booked it would take 90 minutes,it was really windy outside not weather to be standing about in the receptionist told me I could wait in the waiting area till my transport arrived how very kind of her to do this for me ,The waiting area had nice comfortable seats, a tv ,free drink making facilities even a big bowl of mints on the table for people to help themselves, So thankful I got a lovely place to wait in as my patient transport took 2.5 hours to come ,when it did the receptionist explained to the driver where I was ,thanked them again and went on my journey my overall experience I give 10/10 thankyou so much to everyone .

Dear Netty,

Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

We are really proud of our new Lowfield Clinic as a facility but it’s really the team who are the heart of the service so I have made sure that they have seen your appreciation of a job well done.

I’m so glad we have changed your mind about physiotherapy and hope this has helped with a speedy recovery.

Best wishes,

Chris Harrison

Hospital Director
