"I'm not a patient, I'm a burden!"

About: Engleton House Surgery

I arrived on time and after an hours wait in which the occupants of the waiting room had been emptied and refilled twice I managed to see a doctor.

This woman chose not to greet me and simply ignored my aside I had taken time off work to wait for her to see me an hour late.

From there things got less sympathetic.

Firstly I requested a repeat prescription of some pain medication I had been prescribed and the doctor immediately seized upon this as the cause of my visit.

I tried to engaged her in a dialogue regarding the reason I had actually made the appointment which she refused to acknowledge, presumptuously stating she couldn't consider more than one thing at a consultation and I would have to make another appointment.

I felt her treatment perfunctory and her manner was brusque and uncaring, at times even rude. For the whole of the appointment, she never once actually looked me in the eye or even at my face, even when taking my blood pressure. She spoke at me not to me.

I was made to feel as though I was imposing on her precious time and was dismissed, she actually turned away from me so I had to leave having failed to gain any of the medical assistance and advice which I required and am entitled to.

I feel that often when I have visited this practice my issues are ignored for the expediency of getting you out the door with whatever quick solution is at hand.

I have been a patient here for over 20 years and though my requirements are meagre my ailments have never been cured or alleviated to my satisfaction.

We are truly sorry if you were made to feel as if you were a burden.

Please let me assure you that this really is not the case.

We appreciate all feedback both positive and negative as this allows us to reflect on situations we may not have been aware of and therefore improve our services for patients. It is impossible to investigate this complaint given that it is anonymous.

I would ask if you could kindly contact the surgery to make an appointment with me so that we can look at this in more detail.

Without specific details it is impossible to pinpoint where the problem may have occurred.

I look forward to hearing from you.
