"I felt really well informed"

About: Calderdale Royal Hospital / Maternity care

(as a service user),

I was 7 days overdue, but had had a second stretch and sweep which set things off. By the time we had got the other children sorted, we were only at the birthing unit for about 20 mins before I started pushing, and it was only about another 15 Minutes then until baby was born. The midwife seemed a bit taken aback at how quickly everything progressed, but was brilliant throughout. The birthing pools in the unit were in use, so they had rung upstairs to start running that one, but in the end there was no time, he made his appearance too quickly! The placenta refused to budge, but the aftercare regarding that was brilliant, I felt really well informed about decisions and although it was a fairly unpleasant procedure, all the staff were so caring and I just felt so safe in their hands. If you’re ever unsure about anything, always ask, it’s better to know, and the experts want you to be informed. Thanks to all staff involved x
