"A visit with Nana"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / General medicine

(as a relative),

I recently brought my grandmother to an outpatient appointment at the Royal Cornwall Hospital while I was down on holiday from Nottingham last week.

She was delighted with the caring nature of the doctors and nurses she encountered and wanted to leave feedback about her time with you. I knew about Care Opinion from hospital visits in Notts and said we could do something on the Internet but she was a little confused about the concept and wanted to write something personal down.

Unfortunately there was nowhere to do this, is there any way this hospital can supply paper/cards to handwrite feedback via Care Opinion?

Dear PuddinNelly,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share yours and your grandmother's experience on Care Opinion.

It's fantastic to hear that your grandmother was delighted with the caring attitudes of the staff that she met on your visit to Royal Cornwall Hospital. I will ensure that her kind words and praise are passed on to the relevant staff as I know they will be equally delighted to receive them.

The great news is that Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust have very recently become a Care Opinion Partner, which means that we will be spreading the word about Care Opinion to make sure our patients know about, and are actively encouraged to share their feedback on Care Opinion too. It's a really exciting opportunity which is why we were so pleased to see your story, because we have just received lots of new materials from Care opinion. Amongst these materials are the free post feedback leaflets, which are perfect for people like your grandmother who prefer to write things down. Anyone can use them and then they simply need to be popped in the post (freepost!) and they are sent to Care Opinion, where a member of their team add the story to the website on behalf of the patient who filled it in.

Care Opinion also have a free phone number for anyone who would prefer to share their feedback over the phone. The number is 0800 122 31 35 and a member of their team will be at the other end, and will share your story on your behalf too. This is also a really great option for people who don't have access to, or don't feel confident using the internet.

It's really important for us that we enable as many people as possible to be able to share their story through whichever route suits them best, as your feedback highlights! So thank you so much for sharing your feedback, and watch this space... hopefully there will be much more Care Opinion visibility at our Trust very soon!

With best wishes to you and your Nana,

Michaela Brewer, Patient & Family Experience Coordinator

Dear PuddinNelly,

I just wanted to update you to let you know that we now have a plan in place to roll out Care Opinion across our Trust. We are putting Care Opinion posters, leaflets and cards in all Wards and Departments so that patients are able to provide us with their feedback in any way that suits them best.

We will also be making sure that all areas have key staff reviewing the feedback left for their teams and will be able to respond direct.

If you would like to learn anymore about our plans, please do feel free to contact me.

With kind regards

Michaela Brewer, Patient & Family Experience Coordinator

Dear PuddinNelly

I wanted to give you a further update with regard to your story and the promised change above. Care Opinion posters are now visible in our 3 hospital sites and leaflets and cards have also been distributed too. This includes the leaflets where patients can hand write their story for Care Opinion, and these are being used well.

We are in the process of ensuring that all inpatient and outpatient areas also have up to date Care Opinion and other feedback information displayed.

With many thanks again for your helpful feedback and I hope you and your Nana are well.

Jenny
