i called for an ambulance to rake my mum to the QMC. This was fast and efficient, quickly she was given pain relief, seen by a dr, x rayed and had a ct scan, diagnosed with a bowel obstruction. We met with a surgeon who decided it was save for my mum to have an operation
This was carried out the next day and she was then given a bed on E12. The staff were fantastic, explained everything to us. Nothing was too much trouble for them, they were on the go all the time. If my mum was in pain the dr would arrive at her bedside and strong medication was prescribed to help ease the pain.
Unfortunately after 10 days we were called to the hospital and the consultant spoke to us all as a family and included my mum, to say the operation had not worked, it would be too risky for another operation as mum was so week.
My mum was transferred to another ward E15 onto a side ward as she was now palliative. As a family we were allowed to visit at anytime , the nurse offered to put a bed in the room so that I could stay over night.
Again the care she received from the staff was excellent from the lady cleaning the room, the young lady HCA , all the nursing staff, palliative care nurse, consultant, my mum was treated with great care and dignity.
When the end did come the HCA was brilliant, she let me help wash and dress my mum, take a lock of hair and hand prints. Although this was emotional at the time, it really has helped me with the grieving process . Thank you QMC , excellent staff, excellent care.
"Thank you E12 & E15"
