I couldn’t get over the traumatic birth experience at city hospital. Consultant at city was aware that my liver enzymes were bit high and could result in a very rare condition called obstetric cholestasis.
I was on ursodeoxycholic acid tablets three times a day. I was 37 weeks pregnant and had been to Triage five times in three days because I couldn’t pass urine and digest any food, they didn’t pay any attention just would check baby heartbeat and send me home. Midwife told me reason I couldn’t pass urine is because baby’s head is pressing your bladder.( reality was I had infection which they detected on day third when all they damage was done, my kidneys failed)
My water broke and was told to wait until cervix dilates, I told them my body is telling me there is something wrong and I can’t wait. I requested them for cesarian which was refused by a consultant. I requested them to induce labour and I was told to wait 24 hours. I waited finally they started me on drip to induce labour after couple of hours rushed to deliver baby by emergency cesarian ,by which time my liver collapsed and suffered acute renal failure.
I had been in hospital over a week. I missed on cuddling my baby’s first week in this world. I couldn’t breast feed I have been on antibiotics for two weeks and my breasts wouldn’t produce any milk. My stitches got infected and I was put on very high dose antibiotic clindamycin. Clindamycin gave me very bad diarrhoea I rang triage and midwife told me I got bug in my body that’s why I have diarrhoea. Next day I got call from triage that they have found bug and to stop clindamycin. I had been taking clindamycin three capsules four times a day for no reason.
I have flashbacks everyday and night. I’ll be lying in bed and suddenly I am back there. I am mentally upset . Sometimes I get up at night and cry . I couldn’t get over it.
Choosing city was biggest mistake I wish I was gone to women’s.
