"My treatment for drugs in Hull prison"

About: City Health Care Partnership CIC

(as a service user),

I had been using heroin and commiting crime to fund my habit, because of this I was arrested and sent to Hull prison, at reception I took a urine test and was put on Methadone. I had no choice about what medication or dose I received, I understand that other people were on different medication but this was only available to those who were continuing a script from the community.

Over the next four months I recevied a reducing dose until I was detoxed with 2 months of my sentence remaining, again I did not have much say about how fast or slow my detox should be but I was looking forward to being released drug free and doing things differently this time.

I have been in this situation before and things have gone wrong and I knew I would be moving back to environments where there would be some drug use. So I took the decision to go on Naltraxone so I wouldn't be tempted when I was back in the community.

I had all the appointments to set this up and took a liver function test to make sure I could use Naltraxone. I was told that I would start using Nalraxone before my release so I could be monitored for a short time and get used to taking the medication.

As my release date started to get nearer I began to worry that I had not started to use the Nalraxone I made several enquiries and when I did get a response I was told it was to late to start the trail and I would be released without the medication.

I had begun to think about how things were going to be different this time and this news really demotivated me, I knew then things would not be different this time.

I am currently on a DRR after getting involved in drug use and crime again and I am really disappionted that despite the good help I received in prison it fell down on small but important part of the process.
