"NHS Heroes"

Me and my partner turned up to the Scarborough maternity ward on Saturday the 19th may 2018, as I was having regular and painful contractions and on arrival felt the need to push. We were greeted by a team of midwives who rushed us into a delivery room and put a heart rate monitor straight on me. On realising baby's heart rate was very low and dropping a doctor was called and turned up within seconds who assessed the situation and I was sent for an emergency c section. I was then put under General anaesthetic so my memory from there is blank, however my partner said that there was numerous members of staff on hand assisting with the c section and working their absolute hardest to make sure me and my baby were ok.

Not long after my partner was told mother and baby were fine and our Baby boy Louie was born at 19.54.

I didn't come round from the anaesthetic till a little while after and my partner told me what has happened. It wasn't until then that we realised that the umbilical cord had been around our babies neck. We stayed in hospital for a couple of days and both me and baby were very healthy and received the best support from the midwife team. The surgeon even came to see us the next day to see that we were ok.

On reflection of our experience I cannot thank the staff of Scarborough hospital enough, their quick thinking and professionalism made the happiness we have today, because this could of been a totally different story.

I will forever be grateful and these people are the pillars of the NHS.
