I was recently sent to Warrington A&E by Halton UCC as the Surgical Assessment Unit was full.
While waiting I was witness to a number of things that staff at Halton would of been disciplined for.
From A&E staff walking through the waiting area with takeout. Taxi drivers arriving with bin bags if linen and displaying it with his bare hands, violating who knows how many infection control regulations. But my favourite was the domestic standing around conversing rather than cleaning A fairly grimy department and the two receptionists ignoring building queues to have a conversation not related to work.
When taken into a triage room the curtain was left open for everyone to look in and the 2nd room I was taken to was the same. With the curtain open and all the others open I could see several half dressed patients in pain. The trolley I was asked to lie down on was dirty and still had it's linen, cotton and needle caps from the last user.
I should of taken my chances elsewhere. It's a shame because Halton was to clean and the staff were pretty nice too. But then you go Warrington and it's dirty and the staff look at you like they just stepped in dog mess.
"A&E or Zoo?"
